Is hair botox worth it? An honest answer
It is not botox, it is not permanent, and it will not straighten your hair. Here is what it does do.
The short version. Hair botox is a smoothing and conditioning treatment. It is not permanent, it contains no botulinum toxin, and it does not straighten hair the way a keratin service does. It is worth it if your problem is frizz, dullness and rough condition. It is not worth it if you want your curl pattern gone.
What is hair botox, actually?
It is a deep conditioning treatment that fills the gaps in a damaged cuticle and seals them under heat. The name is marketing — it borrows the association with a filling, smoothing cosmetic procedure. There is no botulinum toxin in it and nothing is injected.
What you get is smoother, shinier, more manageable hair for a period of weeks. What you do not get is a chemical change to your hair's structure, which is the thing that separates it from a keratin or relaxing service.
Is hair botox permanent?
No. It washes out gradually over roughly six to twelve weeks depending on your hair, how often you wash it and what you wash it with. Anyone telling you a smoothing treatment is permanent is either selling something else or selling it badly.
Because it fades rather than growing out, there is no line of demarcation and no awkward halfway stage — the hair simply returns to how it behaved before.
Does hair botox damage your hair, or cause hair loss?
A conditioning treatment sealed with heat does not cause hair loss. What can cause damage is the flat iron used to seal it, if it is run too hot or too many times over hair that is already fragile.
That is a stylist problem rather than a product problem, and it is the reason we assess condition before agreeing to any smoothing service here. If your hair is already breaking, the honest answer is usually not a smoothing treatment at all — it is bond repair and a cut.
Can I colour my hair after hair botox?
Colour first, then smooth. A smoothing treatment seals the cuticle, and a sealed cuticle is exactly what colour needs to get through — so colouring afterwards gives you uneven, under-processed results.
If you want both, book them in that order in the same visit or a few days apart, and tell us at booking so we can allow the time. If you have already had the treatment, wait two weeks before colouring and expect us to strand-test.
Hair botox or keratin — which one do you want?
| Hair botox | Keratin smoothing | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Conditions, smooths, adds shine | Chemically relaxes the curl |
| Curl pattern | Kept, softened | Loosened or removed |
| Lasts | 6–12 weeks | 3–5 months |
| Best for | Frizz, dullness, rough condition | Wanting genuinely straighter hair |
Most people who book “hair botox” want the first column. Most people who are disappointed by it wanted the second.
How often can you have it done?
Every two to three months is a comfortable rhythm. There is no benefit to doing it more often than it fades, and each round means another pass with a flat iron.
What it costs in Red Deer
Hair Botox at Hello Beauty Lounge starts at $120, and the final price depends on length and density — long, thick hair uses more product and more time. We publish that number, which most salons in Red Deer do not.
If you are not sure whether you want this or a bond treatment, the two-minute quiz will tell you which one we would book you for.
Making it last at home
Sulphate-heavy shampoo strips a smoothing treatment faster than anything else you can do to it. Two things we keep on the shelf for exactly this:
- SMOOTH.AGAIN WASH — a smoothing wash for frizz-prone hair, $45.00 for 250ml, with the matching RINSE at $44.50.
- UN.TANGLED — a leave-in conditioner, $45.00. Frizz is very often dryness wearing a disguise.
Both are collected at the salon — there is no online checkout. Add them to your list on the product page and we will hold them for you.

Common questions
Is hair botox permanent?
No. It washes out gradually over roughly six to twelve weeks depending on your hair, how often you wash it and what you wash it with. Because it fades rather than growing out, there is no line of demarcation.
Does hair botox contain botulinum toxin?
No. The name is marketing. It is a deep conditioning treatment that fills gaps in a damaged cuticle and seals them under heat. Nothing is injected and there is no botulinum toxin in it.
Does hair botox damage your hair or cause hair loss?
The treatment itself does not cause hair loss. The risk is the flat iron used to seal it, run too hot or too many times over hair that is already fragile. We assess condition before agreeing to any smoothing service, and if hair is already breaking we usually recommend bond repair and a cut instead.
Can I colour my hair after hair botox?
Colour first, then smooth. A smoothing treatment seals the cuticle, and colour needs to get through that cuticle, so colouring afterwards gives uneven results. If you have already had the treatment, wait two weeks and expect a strand test.
What is the difference between hair botox and keratin?
Hair botox conditions and smooths while keeping your curl pattern, and lasts six to twelve weeks. Keratin smoothing chemically relaxes the curl and lasts three to five months. Most people booking hair botox want smoother, shinier hair rather than genuinely straighter hair.
