Booking with us
Salon policies
Short, and written so there are no surprises. If anything here is unclear, call (587) 273-1668 and ask before you book rather than after.
The short version. Give us 24 hours if you need to cancel. Your price is confirmed before we start, not at the till. Consultations are free and you are never obliged to book one. Not happy with your hair? Tell us within 72 hours and the adjustment is on us.
Cancellations and no-shows
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance to avoid penalties. Same-day cancellations or no-shows may result in a fee, or require a deposit before we book you again.
This is not about being difficult. A three-hour colour appointment that empties at short notice is time we cannot refill, and it is time another client was turned away for. The policy exists to be fair to both sides — our team’s day and yours.
If something has genuinely gone wrong — illness, a car that will not start, a child who needs collecting — call us. We would far rather hear from you than find an empty chair.
If you are not happy with your hair
Tell us. That is the whole policy in three words, and it is the part that matters most. Please get in touch within 72 hours of your appointment so we can see the hair while it is still fresh, and we will book you back in.
We do not refund services. The time, the labour and the product are spent once the appointment happens and cannot be recovered. What we do instead is put it right: if the result does not match what we agreed at your consultation, the adjustment is complimentary, and we will schedule it within seven to ten days of the original service.
The one thing that falls outside it: if you have changed your mind and want to go somewhere different from what we planned together, that is a new service at standard rates. It is not a fix, it is a different result — and it usually needs different time and product to get there.
We would far rather hear from you at 72 hours than read it in a review six weeks later. Call (587) 273-1668 or email info@hellobeautylounge.com, tell us what is not working, and bring the reference photos we used. We will look at them with you.
Returning a product
Unopened and unused products can be returned within 14 days for a full refund to your original payment method. If you have tried something and it is not right for your hair, bring it back within the same 14 days and we will exchange it or put the value on your account as salon credit.
Backbar products are chosen for your hair at the chair, so if something is not working, say so at your next visit rather than persevering with it. Swapping a conditioner is a smaller problem than six weeks of the wrong one.
Deposits
A standard appointment needs no deposit. Two situations change that:
- Bridal bookings. A signed contract and a 50% non-refundable deposit secure your date. Weddings block out a morning and turn away other work, so the date is genuinely held for you.
- After a missed appointment. We may ask for a deposit before booking you again following a no-show or a same-day cancellation.
What it will cost
The price is confirmed at the consultation, before anything is started. Our full price list is published, and nothing is added at the till.
If your hair turns out to need something we had not planned for — more lightener, a second toner, a bond treatment — we tell you the price and let you decide. You will never be told about a cost after it has already been done.
Colour is quoted by what the work takes, not by an assumption about length. Long or dense hair costs more because it uses more product and more time, and we say so upfront.
Consultations
Most appointments do not need one booked separately. A root touch-up, a standard trim or a repeat of a style we have done for you before begins with a five to ten minute chat at the start of your booked time, where we confirm the goal and look at any reference photos you have brought. That time is part of the appointment, not an extra visit.
A separate consultation is booked first for work where the plan has to be settled before a chair is held: a major transformation such as dark brunette to platinum or long hair to a pixie; complex chemical work including colour correction, bridal styling and extension installs; and hair that is significantly damaged, thinning, or has a scalp condition, where an evaluation is what makes a safe and realistic plan possible.
Consultations are complimentary either way, with no obligation to book. A colour correction consultation is required — we will not quote a correction over the phone, because the answer depends on what is already in your hair.
Extension consultations are complimentary too, and have to happen before an install: the hair is ordered to match your colour, so it cannot be bought in advance.
Running late
Tell us as soon as you know. We will do what we can, but if the delay eats into the next client’s appointment we may need to shorten your service or rebook it. That is not a judgement — it is the only way the person after you is not made late too.
Children in the salon
We happily cut children’s hair, and a kids’ cut is $38. For long chemical services on yourself, please arrange childcare where you can — a colour appointment can run three hours or more, which is a long time for a child in a salon with chemicals about.
Walk-ins and booking
Walk-ins are accepted and we will fit you in whenever there is a chair free. Booking is still the safer bet, and for colour it is essential — a colour appointment needs a proper block of time, so it is not a walk-in service.
Paying
We accept Visa, MasterCard and debit. Payment is taken at the end of your appointment, after you have seen the finished result.
Parking, WiFi and the practical bits
- Free parking at the door. Same lot for the whole building.
- Free WiFi — useful, since a full colour can run three hours or more.
- Snack bar. Help yourself; long appointments are easier with something in you.
- Everyone is welcome here. We are an LGBTQIA-friendly salon, and we price by the length and density of your hair rather than by gender.
Services are delivered in English. The salon is wheelchair accessible — see below.
Getting in and around the salon
The salon is wheelchair accessible throughout: the entrance is step-free, there is accessible parking in the lot, an accessible restroom, and accessible seating in the waiting area.
If there is anything else that would make your visit easier — a particular chair, a quieter time of day, extra room beside the station — tell us when you book and we will set it up before you arrive rather than rearranging around you.
Your hair history
Tell us everything, including the box dye. We are not going to judge you for it, but we do need to know: box colour, henna and metallic dyes react differently with lightener, and a correction planned on incomplete information is how hair gets damaged.
The same applies to allergies and sensitivities. If you have reacted to a colour service before, say so at the consultation.
