September at the Lounge: the summer's bill arrives
Why your hair has stopped behaving, what to book about it, and what we are recommending this month.

September is when hair stops behaving
Every year, the second week of September, the same conversation starts happening in the chair. The hair that was fine all summer suddenly will not do what it did. It is drier at the ends, it is flat at the root, and the blonde that looked expensive in July has gone the colour of weak tea.
None of that is your imagination. Three months of sun, lake water, chlorine and heat styling does its damage quietly, and then the Alberta air dries out in September and the humidity that was hiding it disappears. What you are seeing is the summer's bill arriving.
The three appointments worth booking before the snow
In rough order of how much difference they make:
- A gloss or toner refresh, from $75. The cheapest, fastest fix on our menu and the one that changes the most. It kills the brass, puts the shine back and takes under an hour. If you book one thing this month, book this.
- A cut, from $55. Summer ends leave splits, and splits travel. Taking half an inch in September is what stops you taking two inches in January.
- Bond repair or a treatment, from $35. Hair Botox from $120 if the problem is frizz and dullness; K18 at $40 if the problem is that your hair feels like it is giving up.

Autumn colour: where everyone is heading
Two directions, and they are opposites.
The first is going darker — dropping a blonde down to a lived-in bronde or a dimensional brunette for the winter. It is warmer against a pale winter complexion, it is dramatically less upkeep through the months when nobody wants to drive to a salon in the dark, and it protects hair that has been lightened all summer. Keltie takes most of our dimensional brunette work and is accepting new clients.
The second is the opposite: people who spent the summer avoiding a big change and have decided September is the reset. If that is you and there is box dye or old bleach in your lengths, book the consultation rather than the appointment. It changes the plan more often than not.
Quietly the busiest request this year has been grey blending — softening grey into highlights instead of chasing roots every four weeks. We wrote the whole thing up this month, prices included.

Booking a 2027 wedding
Bridal dates for next summer are being held now. Our published bridal menu starts at $225 for wedding-day hair, with a required $150 trial, and Saturdays from June to September need three or more services to hold the date. If you are getting married next year, the bridal profile takes about two minutes and comes back with a written quote and a rough morning timeline — usually the same day.

Why does my hair change in September?

When the Alberta air dries out in September that humidity disappears, so the damage becomes visible all at once. Dry ends, flat roots and brassy blonde in early September are the summer's damage becoming apparent, not new damage.
